A Special Forum on the Escalation of MAiD in Canada

Recently, Parliament passed Bill C-39, a one-year delay of the expansion of medical assistance in dying to make MAiD available for those whose sole underlying condition is mental illness. Conservatives voted in favor of this delay because it is better than the alternative - the immediate expansion of MAiD to mentally ill patients against the advice of many mental health professionals. 

This delay is not the end of the debate; the Liberal government has simply bought time to push forward their political agenda at their convenience. My colleague Hon. Ed Fast (Abbotsford), Taco Van Popta (Langley Aldergrove) & Michael Cooper (St. Albert-Edmonton) presented compelling an historical overview on how MAiD has advanced as quickly as it has, and what the purpose of his Private Members Bill C-314.
