National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
“The Healing Journey Continues Through Truth and Reconciliation” event at Memorial Peace Park, Maple Ridge beginning at 10am until 2:30 pm.
For each of us, this is an opportunity for us to learn and reflect on the history of the land we now call Canada, honour survivors of the residential school system, their families, and communities and to remember the children who didn't make it home .It is also a time to reflect on the steps we have taken to be an ally to Indigenous people, to recognize all that we must still do, and to celebrate the rich culture and traditions of Indigenous Peoples.
Activities: Include performances by Indigenous drum groups, special guest speakers, a variety of vendors, orange shirt painting, the creation of a community art project, drum circles, resource and knowledge sharing, and creating a safe place for those impacted by the residential school system to come together to share and witness through stories.
